I tried tons of APPs about how to improve vocabulary. From Flashcards, Games, Music related and many other learning strategies.
For example, Duolingo, Anki, Memrise, Busuu, Lingualeo, Wordscape, E-joy, and at least 60 more apps. And there is nothing in the market compared with Wordup.
Let’s see why.
Reason 1: Pre-made content
You can learn something while writing your flashcards in apps like Anki. But there is a risk of mistakes. You can write partially wrong concepts.
So, instead of spending your time writing down flashcards, I suggest you just review more and practice actual writing.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a big fan of Anki and will continue using it for other purposes.
But not for learning new words.
Reason 2: SORTED BY USEFULNESS!
Only because you read the word “aliferous” one time doesn’t mean that you need to prioritize it before the word “budget.”
The more frequently the word is used, the sooner you need to remember. At least in terms of probabilities.
Wordup uses an innovative Spaced Repetition System that allows you to keep focusing on what matters.
Reason 3: Real Examples
You can learn from TV shows, music lyrics, famous quotes, you name it. To keep you in the loop, you should have contact with enjoyable contexts.
By grabbing your attention like a beautiful person passing by, you will be keen to learn for more minutes each opportunity.
Reason 4: Organized by Categories
Besides common categories like “Animals,” “Family,” and “Vacation,” the APP provides the words for each season of your favorite TV Series. Same with movies.
You can learn the new words from each episode and try to watch it later without subtitles. And the APP will filter what you need to remember.
“The Fast and the Furious” way to learn, make new “Friends”, and improve your communication even in The Office. ;-)
Reason 5: Different meanings
To learn deeply and get real fluency, you need to plunge in slightly different uses of a word.
Wordup mixes the meaning of words along with expressions and even phrasal verbs.
Reason 6: Not just flashcards but also tests and games
It’s easy to lie to yourself. How can you be sure that you remembered the word?
Let’s have a test integrated with the flashcards! If you fail, the APP will show you the word again sooner.
Reason 7: Your control
With a drag-n-drop screening, you can decide which words you must practice. But also change it if you wish.
You also decide when to review, test, and learn again and you can see your progress.
Reason 8: British + American
Wordup is just one dictionary for both British and American English.
There is no filter between learning British or American English.
But, in the Internet era, maybe it is safe to learn both together.
Reason 9: Sound included
Improve your listening and pronunciation even while focusing on vocabulary skill.
Listen to words, definitions, and examples.
Reason 10. GIFs!
Wordup has images and videos. But gifs are a fast-funny way to memorize and save storage of your device compared to videos.
Reason 11: Made by a non-profit organization
Wordup was founded by a lovely couple. Great inspiration for me.
Reason 12: It’s on continuous improvement
Soon, they will deliver more than 4000 idioms.
Reason 13: Fair price
Last but not least, Wordup has Essential and Pro subscriptions, both for 12 months and for a lifetime.
For Brazilians, there is a special discount!

Conclusion
Wordup is a mix of Dictionary+Flashcard+Quiz+Game APP that provides related examples, customization, and fun.
I’m happy to be part of the education revolution.
I hope you try it.
